“THE TORONTO CARRYING PLACE: Rediscovering Toronto's Most Ancient Trail”: We highly recommend this very informative and entertaining (and very readable) soft-cover book which has just been published by Glenn Turner and Dundurn Press. Mr. Turner grew up in the Humber Valley close to the Carrying Place Trail, and he now lives in Ottawa. The book contains a wealth of information about the trail and the history of the people who used it over the centuries, interspersed with the author's personal account of his experience walking the trail (or at least as close to the original location as one can walk today) from Lake Ontario to the Holland River.

A unique and engaging history in which the author shares an intimacy with the historical figures and events, by virtue of the trail being their shared common ground

Both informative and easy to read. It's historical and well researched, but it's presented in a personal way: the author's actual experience of locating and following an ancient Indian footpath

My kind of book. Local history a bonus.
